The Field Kit, Thursday September 24, 2026
In Wednesday's investigation, the man who sells your local car dealer a spot inside a named team's live game told us what proves the ad ran.
His answer: "when a client views their spot running live, within the ordered game, in the local market ordered, and for the specific team requested."
Then we asked him who authorized the sale. His publisher agreements were under NDA. We narrowed it to six questions, and he answered zero. The NFL, NBA, NHL, the teams, Fox and NBCUniversal each reported no relationship with Asellus Group to sell their games.
Put those side by side and you have the local live sports market. A guarantee with no paper behind it, and a proof that consists of the customer catching his own commercial.
The part nobody tells the car dealer is that every link in the chain has an owner. A league holds the rights. A network distributes the game. An app serves the stream. A platform sells the break. Each one can be named, or at least confirmed to exist in writing. Asking costs nothing, but nobody down the chain gets paid to ask.
So this week's kit asks. It has seven questions, in the order a sports package comes apart: the seller, the rights, the app, the path, the verifier, the delivery, the makegood. Each one comes with the question for your rep, the dodge you'll hear back, and the follow-up that ends the conversation.
A sighting is a souvenir. It isn't a receipt.
